do you want to start gleaning in your community?

We often hear from folks who want to begin gleaning work in their community and we are happy to share resources.

The structure of your gleaning organization will look different depending on your community. We recommend that you bring together important stakeholders such as local Food Policy Councils, growers, community organizations, food recovery and hunger organizations, and more to discuss a plan to find the best organization to sustainable house your gleaning operations.

Ideally you will be able to find funding to have a part time or full time coordinator to do this work. Many gleaning organizations (including us) rely on volunteers to help with every aspect of our operations. The coordinator may be responsible for scheduling these volunteers as well as setting up gleaning opportunities with local farms.
