Glean-A-Mania 2017
It's here! It's Glean-A-Mania: A Penny Per Pound Fundraiser for The Gleaning Project of South Central PA.
Free, fresh fruits and vegetables for those in our community who can't afford them. Reducing hunger and improving nutrition with locally grown produce that would otherwise go to waste. Supporting our local growers and making the most of all that our bountiful region and community have to offer. That's what The Gleaning Project is all about. And as part of the local antipoverty nonprofit South Central Community Action Programs (SCCAP), we've been working so hard for the last five years to build a foundation on which to do that.
That 'we' is not current staff... It's you! The Gleaning Project is a community solution, and that community includes current and former staff, the SCCAP board and administration, our friends, followers, volunteers, material and monetary donors, growers, distributing community partners, and everyone in between. We would not exist without you. And we need your help.
Glean-A-Mania is an easy, engaging way for you to help keep this community solution alive. This fundraiser works by having our supporters and their friends and family pledge pennies per pound of produce that each county will glean during one super week in September.
We hope to glean 6,000 to 7,000 lbs of produce in each county during Glean-A-Mania week. A one penny pledge then, would amount to a tax deductible $60 to $70 donation to support our work. We want all our supporters, regardless of income or wealth to be able to participate; portions of pennies pledged are more than welcome. Multiple pennies per pound, matches, and sponsors are also more than welcome. We're just getting started with this brand new fundraising model.
Glean-A-Mania starts right now. For the next month, we ask all of you to help us find pledges of a penny (or multiple pennies, or portions of pennies) for each pound of produce that the Adams County chapter or Franklin County chapter can glean during the week of September 9-15.

Share this post! And share our next one! For the next month, we're rolling out examples of the work we do, data about the impact we're making, and stories about why it matters. Please share this info with anyone who shares our values and might be interested in sustaining this powerful work.
Get a pledge packet... and gather some pledges! We have hard copy packets available at both SCCAP offices and at every glean from here til September. Brainstorm friends, neighbors, and family members that might be interested in contributing to our efforts and playing along. Let them know about us and why you think our work is valuable to South Central PA. Help them fill out a hard copy pledge form or go online to our website to do so.
