COVID - 19 Update

July 10, 2022

As of July 10, 2022, we are no longer requiring gleaning participants to wear masks. Volunteers are encouraged to use whatever PPE would make them feel most comfortable. Health and safety continue to be our primary focus and we ask that if you do not feel well to please stay home. Please contact us to let us know you will not be able to volunteer so that we can make other arrangements.

COVID-19 UPDATE

August 23, 2021

As of 8-23-2021 with the rise of the Delta variant, SCCAP and The Gleaning Project have made the decision to require that all volunteers participating in gleans will be required to wear a mask in order to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. Social distancing will be practiced as much as possible and we will be utilizing increased sanitation, hand washing and other safety measures to ensure Gleans can continue.

As always health and safety is our primary focus as we continue operating in accordance with recommendations from the CDC and Pennsylvania Department of Health to ensure that produce is safely collected and distributed to community partners across South Central PA.

COVID-19 UPDATE

June 28th, 2021

Pennsylvania’s mask mandate was officially lifted as of 12:01 a.m. and while masks may be required in some areas, such as indoors or in some office buildings, they will no longer be required during gleans. Social distancing should still be practiced.

Doctors continue to recommend that people wear masks if they have not been vaccinated against COVID-19 as it is an additional layer of protection that can help prevent the spread.

As the seasons change and we enter into cold and flu season, masks may be required again if COVID-19 numbers experience an increase.

We are committed to supporting farms, community partners, and families in our community through the COVID-19 pandemic. Health and safety is our primary focus.

We are operating in accordance with recommendations from the CDC and Pennsylvania Department of Health to ensure that produce is safely collected and distributed to community partners across South Central PA.

We are:

  • Washing hands, wearing personal protective equipment, disinfecting all tools and supplies before, during, and after gleaning.

  • Limiting the number of times produce is handled from the farm to its final destination.

  • Limiting the number of people involved in the process.

  • Creating 6 ft distances between staff and volunteers in fields, coolers, and community partners.

  • Creating opportunities for no-contact farm pick ups and site deliveries.

  • Staying home if we feel unwell or have had contact with someone who is sick.

  • Training and supporting all volunteers in adhering to advanced safety protocols.

The Gleaning Project strives for a more equitable and sustainable food system. We envision a South Central Pennsylvania where farmers are supported, the local food economy is thriving, and everyone can access enough food to lead a healthy, active lifestyles. During these challenging times, we remain committed to fulfilling our role as a community solution and supporting our local food system.
